PENN CAN SPEEDWAY
GEARS UP FOR 2013 SEASON
Susquehanna, PA…Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, PA is
gearing up for another exciting year of racing at the three eighths mile
oval. Track operators Al Wilcox and Reed
Miller will return for their sixteenth season and are very excited about what
looks to be an exciting year of racing. Another very ambitious schedule is now
in the works and will be announced shortly. The schedule will be highlighted
again in 2013 by Penn Can Speedway two signature events, the June 11th “Clash
at the Can” and the season ending “King of the Can Weekend” in October. The
speedway will be represented at the two area race car shows in March. The first
being the Southern Tier Speedworld Show at the
Oakdale Mall in Johnson City the first weekend in March. The following weekend
the track will set up their booth at the Motorsports Expo in Syracuse.
After the 2012 point season ended in September the track
crew lead by Al Wilcox became tweaking the speedway layout in hopes of giving
drivers more racing room on the speedway. Drainage pipes were relocated and the
turns were cut back slightly. The first event run on the new configuration was
the annual King of the Can Weekend last October. Many race teams commented on
the wider more racer friendly track. They look forward to competing at the
facility in 2013.
The mighty modifieds will once
again be the premier division every Friday evening. They will be joined by the
up-and-coming 602 sportsman division. The thrilling street stocks will be
racing weekly along with the factory stocks and four cylinders. Special events
throughout the racing season have been planned for each class racing at the
speedway. New for 2013 is the weekly racing for the 600 Xcel Modifieds. They will compete as a weekly racing division at
the speedway along with racing in monthly tour races. Special events for the
Xcel cars are also planned. Special events are also in the works for the CRSA
Sprints as well as the Vintage cars that will race on Legends of Penn Can Night
in July.
The annual Northeast Small Car Classic will return bigger
and better than ever. This huge special for the small cars will be run as a two
day show partnering with Hamlin Speedway where the first night will be
contested. The date of this two day event has been set for Saturday July 20th
and Hamlin Speedway and Sunday July 21st at Penn Can. Divisions racing at Penn
Can and Hamlin will include the 600 Sprints, 270 Sprints, and Slingshots. The
