RAIN STOPS RACING ACTION AT PENN CAN…FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA FRIDAY
Susquehanna, PA…The Penn Can Speedway track crew worked throughout the day Friday getting the track surface in great condition for the nights racing activities. The weather service maps showed a slight chance of rain and hopes were up that the track would be spared any significant rainfall. As race time neared, the skies opened again with heavy rainfall that flooded the track for the second time in twenty four hours. While it appeared that the rain fall would not last long, the large amount that feel on top of what had previously fallen force speedway officials to cancel the night’s racing program.
The focus now turns to one of the most highly anticipated nights of the season. Next Friday Penn Can Speedway presents the annual Fireworks Extravaganza. This big night of racing will feature the largest fireworks display in the area. It will also feature some of the finest stock car racing in the northern tier of Pennsylvania and southern tier of New York. The entire night of thrilling racing and the large fireworks presentation is being sponsored by Warner’s Gas Service of Vestal, New York.
“Two years ago we went out and switch suppliers for our fireworks night,” explains Reed Miller. “For the last two seasons ZY Pyrotechnics of Wapwallopen, PA put on one of the best shows ever seen at Penn Can Speedway. They will be back better than ever on July 5th.”
The racing action will be just as exciting. The top modified division has produced some very entertaining races with any number of drivers capable of winning the thirty lap feature event. There has not been a repeat winner in the modified division in 2013. The point battle this season is every bit as exciting. Currently 2011 Penn Can champions, Kevin Hartnett leads the battle over Alan Rudalavage, and Bob Trapper.
The featured race of the night will be an exciting 35 lap modified feature event. Joining the modifieds and sportsman on the card of racing will be the street stocks, factory stocks, and four cylinders.
Gates will open at 5:15 with racing at 7:30.
