PENN CAN SPEEDWAY SCHEDULES IRONMAN 100 SATURDAY APRIL 13TH

Susquehanna, PA…Penn Can Speedway is getting ready for another exciting season of racing at the three eighths mile oval. The opening event of 2013 is less than six weeks away with the highly anticipated Ironman 100 featured on Saturday April 13th. Labeled the “Big Kahuna of Street Stock Racing” here in the northern tier of Pennsylvania the event will consist of a big one hundred lap street stock event.

Ever since the initial announcement of the Ironman 100, interest has been high in the street stock division. The format for the $1000 to win event will feature heat races, consis, and a non qualifiers event if enough cars enter. All cars entering will draw for starting positions in heats and the feature. The one hundred lap feature will have a competition yellow at the halfway point in the race. Teams may hold their positions by electing to stay on the speedway or teams may pit. Teams pitting may do any work necessary and will rejoin the field in the position they fall into on the track behind those cars that do not pit. ROC street stock rules will be followed for this event.

Joining the street stocks will be the popular Open Sportsman running a twenty five lap main event. The Open Sportsman race will include a twenty five lap feature event paying a minimum of $850 to win. The cars will qualify through heat races and consis. The winner of the twenty five lap event will receive a guaranteed starting position in the “Hot Summer Night” Race of Champions event at the speedway. The highest placing 602 sportsman will receive a guaranteed position in the “Clash at the Can” in June.

The IMCA modifieds were originally scheduled to race at Penn Can on this Saturday special. Because of the heavy schedule of racing for that division during the weekend, it was decided to remove the IMCA cars and replace them with the Xcel 600 modifieds. They will be competing in a twenty lap feature paying $500 to win.

“After talking with many of the teams at the Binghamton Speedworld show that had committed to running with us on that Saturday, it was decided that rescheduling the race might be in the best interest of all teams,” explained Al Wilcox. “The cars will be invited to compete at Penn Can at a later date in the season.”

The Penn Can factory stocks will be making up their rained out event from the King of the Can Weekend last October. They will be running a twenty lap feature, joining the factory stocks will be the four cylinder division competing in a fifteen lap feature event.

Gates for this special Saturday race will open at 2:00 with the first heat race scheduled at 5:00. Grandstand gates will open avt3:00. Anyone with questions can contact the speedway at 570-585-9928 or check us out on the web at www.penncan.com.
